CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Association of Educators, an affiliate of the North Carolina Association of Educators, is endorsing seven pro-public education candidates for seats in the N.C. House and Senate.
- Mujtaba Mohammed, Senate District 38
- Chad Stachowitz, Senate District 39
- Christy Clark, House District 98
- Nasif Majeed, House District 99
- Becky Carney, House District 102
- Wesley Harris, House District 105
- Carla Cunningham, House District 106
“All of these candidates will be strong supporters of public schools and will work to ensure our students achieve at a high level,” said CMAE President Erlene Lyde. “We need candidates who fight in the Legislature so that our students have more opportunities to be successful and ones who recognize and acknowledge the immense impact of strong public schools.”
NCAE’s focus is to support candidates who can help fully restore education funding to North Carolina’s public schools and move the state forward. The Association’s 2018 Legislative Agenda puts priorities on retaining and recruiting quality educators, increasing per-pupil expenditures (43rd in the nation), and funding for textbooks, restoring teacher assistant positions, eliminating additional funding for private school vouchers, and providing professional compensation for all educators (35th in the nation).
NCAE is the state’s largest education advocacy organization for public school employees and represents active, retired, and student members.
